If you’re a sucker for those dreamy wedding details photos like I am, you’ve come to the right place. We call them “flat lays” in the industry, and they’re so fun to put together. However, these flat lays don’t happen without some degree of preparation, so I’ve put together a list of 20+ items to pack for your wedding details photos.
For more elaborate flat lays with ribbons, stamps, wax melts, etc., reach out to your photographer ahead of time to see what items they already have/use.
20+ items to pack for your wedding details photos:
- Your engagement rings and wedding bands. (PRO TIP : make sure all rings are brought to the venue at the same time so they can all be photographed together. There will be plenty of time to get the bands to whoever needs them before the ceremony.)
- A cute ring box or ring dish
- Two full copies of your paper suite (save-the-date, invitation, RSVP cards, rehearsal dinner menus, details cards, etc.)
- Cuff links
- Ties
- Belt/suspenders
- The perfume/cologne you’ll be wearing (PRO TIP : buy a special fragrance only for your wedding day; anytime you wear it after that you’ll instantly be transported to the best day of your life!)
- Shoes/socks
- A special dress hanger
- Any jewelry/watches/accessories you’ll be wearing on the wedding day
- Your veil and/or hair pieces
- Handkerchiefs
- Your vow books
- Any items you’re using as your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
- Floral items like your bouquet, boutonniere, etc. (PRO TIP : ask your florist to set aside a few loose flowers/greenery specifically for your photographer to use in detail photos. Be sure to coordinate what time those need to arrive on the wedding day.)
- Guest welcome bags/favors
- Any special items, momentos, heirlooms, etc. that represent your day/design scheme
(PRO TIP : keep all of your detail items in a single box. When your photographer arrives on the wedding day you can simply hand over the box and let them work their magic.)
As always, the most important thing is for your wedding day to feel true to who you are individually and as a couple. Maybe you’ll bring every one of these items, or maybe you’ll only bring a handful of them. Do whatever feels right to you and is most authentic to your wedding day vibes.
If detail photos aren’t important to you, PLEASE don’t feel pressured to spend extra money and/or gather a bunch of items that don’t mean anything to you. If you want to keep it sweet and simple, then sweet and simple is how we shall keep it.
